Chrome Dino – The Endless Running Dinosaur Game

Chrome Dino, also known as the Google Dinosaur Game, is a simple yet addictive endless runner built into the Google Chrome browser. Originally designed to entertain users during internet outages, it has become a classic mini-game enjoyed by millions worldwide.

Gameplay Mechanics

Players take control of a pixelated Tyrannosaurus rex, galloping through an endless desert landscape. The goal is to avoid obstacles and survive as long as possible while the game gradually increases in speed.

Controls:

  • Jump: Press the up arrow or spacebar to leap over obstacles.
  • Crouch: Press the down arrow to duck under flying pterosaurs.

Obstacles:

  • Cacti: Appear in different sizes and depths, requiring quick jumps.
  • Pterosaurs: Fly at different heights, requiring either a jump or a crouch to avoid.
  • As the game progresses, the speed increases, making it harder to react in time. A day/night cycle also adds a visual challenge by alternating between light and dark themes.

How Long Does Chrome Dino Last?

Theoretically, the game could last up to 17 million years, a reference to how long the T-Rex lived on Earth. However, human reflexes will likely give out much sooner!

History & Development

Chrome Dino was created by Sebastien Gabriel, Alan Bettes, and Edward Jung from Google’s Chrome UX team. It was first released on September 6, 2014, as a way to ease users’ frustration when they lost internet access. Due to its popularity, the game was later made accessible even when online.
